The photography forum I subscribe to, Dyxum, is running an April foolishness challenge this month and the challenge I have set myself is to post at least three photos a week with every one including the number 70! Good luck with that. This is my first, on day two and of course my birthday.
The organiser of the challenge suggested everyone taking part considers including a 70 in their photos for this day, just for me :-)
See the thread here.
After much careful thought and research I decided to trade in all of my A-mount digital cameras and lenses and with the proceeds I have treated myself to a new Sony full-frame E-mount Alpha camera, the a7ii, with the Zeiss Batis 16mm f2.8, the Sony 24-70 f4 ZA OSS and the Sony 70-200 f4 G OSS:
Much lighter, smaller and probably better all round. Fingers crossed that lots of good photos will come from them.
Watch this space......
In the meantime there are a couple of new shots of Ollie and Rosie on their blog page.
and this blog page is to record my 2018
The six snaps you see are from each of my passports from the first, issued in 1965, to the current which is about to expire. As I approach my 70th birthday, on 2nd April, I have to renew my passport and my driving licence, so these images are stepping stones to the present.
Do take time to browse the main site as I update my photo galleries and sporadically add to the dog and caravan blogs, as well as having a look at my book page; As You Were!. It was first published in 1996 and still sells through Amazon Kindle and iTunes. Indeed a copy was sold yesterday, Christmas Day. Happy Christmas to whoever you were, and if you come by this site please drop me a line to let me know how you came to buy it on Christmas Day. (Perhaps it was an electronic present!) There have been some very complimentary and encouraging feedbacks and I am very grateful to everyone who has taken the trouble to leave a comment, with perhaps a single exception!
For this part of the site I plan to add posts concerning all my interests, activities and hobbies which include, in addition to photography, coding (in Python) on the Raspberry Pi. I have taken on the challenge to learn another (programming) language to help me keep my little grey cells working and hopefully retaining my mind for as long as possible. So I try to find time between walking the Golden Retrievers and playing golf with a group of mostly retired service buddies to sit in my man cave and fiddle with my host of computers, large and small.
And very importantly, I have aquired a fine collection of Minolta and Sony film and digital cameras and lens so I really must make more effort next year to get out and take pictures, especially with my prize Zeiss A-mount 24-70 f2.8 SSM lens.
Finally, for this introduction, my "About" page photo shows me as a James Bond book collector. In fact it is much more than that and I have a very large collection of books and other Bond/Fleming memorabilia. But a collection is really all about collecting and I have arrived at a time of my life when I no longer find the time, money or interest in seeking out new items for the collection and I have decided it should find new home(s). Batemans Auctioneers in Stamford have agreed to host a special auction of my entire collection in the Spring. More details to follow in the New Year.
2018 is a special year in my time line as it is the year I turn 70! I have set up this blog page to record events throughout the year with a New Year resolution to take more and better photographs of those events.
